The deadline for award nominations is February 18, 2022.

Each year the Society of Outdoor Recreation Professionals (SORP) presents the Project Excellence Award to exemplary outdoor recreation projects.  SORP is particularly interested in Project Excellence Award nominations that exemplify the 2022 National Outdoor Recreation Conference Theme: Outdoor Recreation: Solutions for Transformation. The award is presented to the collaborating agencies and/or organizations key to the success of the planning effort.  Selection criteria include:

1. Unique or special circumstances including breadth of the planning area

2. Demonstrated problem-solving, transferability, and adaptability

3. Level of innovation and creativity

4. Sustainable impact of the Project

5. Collaboration (stakeholder engagement, community outreach, joint planning)

SORP is committed to inclusivity, as well as social and environmental justice. We welcome nominations from anyone, and we especially encourage individuals of color, those with tribal affiliation, those with disabilities, those who identify as LGBTQ, veterans, and anyone else inclusively. Our mission is to be the voice of the Outdoor Recreation profession, and we won’t truly be able to achieve that vision without you.

An agency/organization/individual is limited to one Project Excellence nomination per year.

For award questions and/or application assistance, please email Laurel Harkness (laurel.harkness@recpro.org). A reasonable accommodation will be made to extend this opportunity to individuals with disabilities.

SORP will present the awards at the 2022 National Outdoor Recreation Conference in Knoxville, TN, May 2-5, 2022. We hope to see you there!

We use Submittable to accept and review our submissions.
